Meet the 2011 Scholarship Recipients

Johnathan Archer, a senior at Westlake High School in Waldorf, plans to attend
Frostburg University and major in music. Johnathan is a member of the
Intergenerational Choir and the United Methodist Youth Fellowship. Brenda
Bradford is Johnathan’s proud grandmother. Johnathan received a $750
scholarship.
Sara Dorsey, a senior at Maurice J. McDonough in Pomfret, MD, plans to attend
Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, Florida and study to become a lawyer.
Sara has been active in the life of St. Paul as a member of the Youth Choir,
Liturgical Dance Ministry and a participant in church plays. She is the daughter of
Robert and Patty Dorsey and received a $500 scholarship.
David Holloman, a senior at Surrattsville High School in Clinton, Maryland, plans to
attend Bowie State University with aspirations to become a physician. David, the
son of Odessa Holliman, has been an active member in the church serving as an
usher since 2003. He has also served as an acolyte, host for Café Agape, and
participated in Warm Nights. David received a $500 scholarship.
Brian Jackson, son of Edward and Carol Jackson, was unable to be in
attendance at the awards presentation because he was visiting the college of his
choice, St. John’s University in Queens, New York. Upon graduating from North
Point High School in Waldorf, Brian will pursue his goal to become an attorney
and sports agent with a professional sports franchise. Brian has contributed to
the life of the church by serving as an usher, acolyte, Church School programs,
United Methodist Youth Fellowship, choir, and audio-visual ministry. Brian
received a $2,000 scholarship.
Marti Jenkins is the 2011 recipient of the Charles E. Stephens Memorial
Scholarship of $3500. Upon graduating from Suitland High School, she plans to
attend Howard University and major in Psychology and/or Education. Ultimately
she wants to become the superintendent of the Prince George’s County School
system. The daughter of Marty and Gail Jenkins, Marti has contributed to the life
of St. Paul through her involvement in the Liturgical Dance and Drama ministries,
her service as a Communion Steward and member of the Worship Committee,
participant in Church School programs, and as the current Vice President of the
United Methodist Youth Fellowship.
Esther Pugh-Gray, daughter of Kenneth and Loretta Simms, is a graduating
senior at Potomac High School who plans to attend Benedict College in
Columbia, SC and major in Pre-Law. Esther participates in the life of St. Paul by
serving as an usher, singing in the choir, being a member of the United
Methodist Women, serving in the Café Agape, and participating as a teacher’s
assistant for Vacation Bible School. Esther received a $750 scholarship.
Grant Thompson, a senior at Oxon Hill High School, aspires to become a director
and editor of short independent films and plans to study at the Art Institute of
Washington in Arlington, Virginia. He has contributed to the life of the church by
serving as a host and server for Café Agape and participating with the Share
program. Grant is the son of Bernice Thompson and received a $1000
scholarship.
This scholarship recognizes community service and is awarded to the well-
rounded graduating senior attending one of the schools in the organization's
service area. Applicants must have a 3.0 or higher GPA, documentation of
community service and financial need, an impressive 400-500 word essay
discussing a recent event and how it has influenced the student’s outlook for
the future and their career choice, and participate in an interview with the
selection committee of Willing Workers.

Jacob B. Terrell, Jr. Community Scholarship Recipients
Applicants for the Charles E. Stephens Memorial Scholarship are members of St. Paul
United Methodist Church who have demonstrated sustained involvement/participation in
church programs and activities, as well as achieving academic excellence. Recipients are
selected by an independent committee, exclusive of members of the Willing Workers.
