The Jacob B. Terrell Memorial
Community Scholarship
The Willing Workers of Oxon Hill, Inc. is a non-profit (501(c) 3 organization founded in 1976 for the
purpose of assisting youth and providing scholarships to Prince George’s County High School students.
General Information
The Willing Workers’ Community Scholarship was renamed in 2007 in honor of the late Jacob B.
Terrell, Jr., president 2005-2007, whose vision and tireless dedication to community outreach was
instrumental in the creation and support of this program.
The Jacob B. Terrell Community Scholarship will be awarded to the successful candidate who meets
the requirements of the scholarship program. The scholarship for $1,000 will be awarded during the
organization’s Annual Scholarship Awards Presentation and Fashion Show Luncheon.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants applying for this Scholarship must meet the following requirements:
- Be a graduating senior enrolled in one of the following Prince George’s high schools in the
organization’s service area: Crossland, Friendly, Gwynn Park, Oxon Hill, Potomac, Suitland or
Surrattsville;
- Be a citizen of the United States of America;
- Complete and submit the scholarship application so that it is received at the P.O. Box no later
than March 30, 2012;
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher;
- Provide an official sealed transcript (mid year). A final transcript may be requested by the
committee if deemed necessary;
- Submit a 400-500 word essay in which you discuss a recent event and how it has influenced
you outlook for the future and your career choice;
- Submit documentation of your community service;
- Provide information to support that you have a financial need; and
- Be available for an interview with the selection committee.
